Seduction Wears Sapphires The Jaded Gentlemen Book 2 edition by Renee Bernard Romance eBooks
I've never had the opportunity to read this author before this book. I don't know what rock I've been hiding under to have missed out on her books before now as I read upwards of four books a week. But what a hilarious plot this fabulous author twists. Here we've got this guy...Ashe Blackwell, who's going to lose everything; title, lands/properties, money...he's going to lose it all if he can't prove to his Grandfather (who holds the Will), that he's able to rein in his roguish ways. In other words, straighten up, fly right, and lend pride to your proud family name. Shouldn't be too hard, right? But Ashe Blackwell is running from nightmarish memories. He's a notorious man-whoring rogue of London who seeks out women to make him forget. He's handsome and commanding and accustomed to women flirting and fluttering around him and hanging on his every word. When his Grandfather gives him an ultimatum, along with a chaperone, (who thinks he's a first class, grade-A ass), well Ashe is stunned. It's either this or lose it all to his worm of a cousin who is next in line to inherit. Ashe has to account to Miss Caroline Townsend 24/7.
After her parents' deaths, Caroline Townsend had no choice but to grudgingly rely on relatives' charity for her welfare. So when a money offer comes to her that she cannot refuse --- and offer that will give her independence --- well, she jumps at the chance. She has a dream to establish a women only college where women can defy convention and be educated. Caroline is a pistol and I loved her. She's a petite American hurricane with manners.
I love romance stories where the guy does the chasing....or the guy is arrogant and doesn't want a relationship and then falls...hard. Or for whatever reasons (old wounds, workaholic etc.), the guy remains a dedicated and happy bachelor and then falls in love. I love strong, independent, intelligent women who are goal oriented and don't want a relationship, but then a guy see's her and wants to know her but she doesn't give him the time of day --- and he won't let her go. I love those kinds of stories --- always the guy does the chasing....always the guy has to work hard to attain his romantic goals. So this story was right up my alley. Ashe Blackwell isn't interested in being tied down. He's a manwhore. Caroline Townsend is forced on him. He's horny and can't do anything about his urges. I guess I'm mean spirited or something, but I loved his predicament. It was great. It made me laugh out loud. On top of all this...Caroline sleepwalks in her almost sheer nightgown right into his bedroom, and never remembers anything the next day. Hilarious... Keeping his distance begins to quickly take its toll.
This story was written with such intelligence and integrity. The romance is sophisticated and mature. The dialogue is witty and fresh...balanced nicely with the narration. Nice sentence structure lending credence to 19th century english and mannerisms. Except for the misuse of the word "antidote" when it should be "anecdote", this story was nearly perfect. I know we're all unique and what floats my boat might sink yours...but if you're looking for Historical fictitious romance with a cute but solid PG-13 - R rated plot...you'll probably like this story. Brilliant!

Seduction Wears Sapphires The Jaded Gentlemen Book 2 edition by Renee Bernard Romance eBooks Reviews
It is hard to decided how many stars a story is worth to a reader. Does it draw you on into the emotion the writer wants you to see in each of the characters as you read or is there enough drama to heighten your turning of the pages. In this story you have a very poor American young women, Caroline Townsend, who has come to England by the request of her grandfathers good friend. Her family had decided that she did not deserve any funds from her grandfathers estate after losing her parents. She was abused and discarded by her own relatives and her only consultation was her desire for more education. Accepting the offer to travel to England to become a consultant on his grandson behavior, seemed a small price to pay. The offer included a monetary incentive that would allow her to live independently from her family and to follow her dreams of setting up a school for women.
Ashe was a man determined to put his past behind him as much as possible. He was secretly a really good guy who had been through some rough times in a foreign land. Caroline is a strong independent woman and I love her spunk.
After living through some very difficult and dangerous time in India, Ashe comes home determined to never risk heartbreak again. After living like for passion and getting a very bad rep among the ton, Ashe's grandfather decides that before he passes on, he needs to be sure Ashe is still the man he knows he can be. Enter Caroline, the woman Ashe's grandfather chooses to chaperone Ashe in London for the winter season. If Ashe can prove to his grandfather that he can reform, he will get his inheritance when he passes. If not, the inheritance goes to the foul cousin.
Ashe thinks Caroline is a rich American with horrible manners and is afraid she may embarrass him when he has to take her out among the "ton". She ends up making him more likeable and most of the ton embraces her saucy ways and can't help but like her. Throw in Ashe's idiot and conniving cousin who you just want to throttle and the story has a little twist. Then things start to heat up with Ashe and Caroline and the tides change. The attraction is undeniable and the secrets they both keep make things a bit edgy. The ending was well done and I would recommend this to anyone who loves historical romance.
